For those who don't know my friend John Rosa-Bian, the best way to describe him is intense.

Everything he does is at full speed. He's competitive and focussed, and as luck would have it I made it onto his team of four for the annual Honeywell golf outing.

What follows is his uneditted email to the team interspersed with my translation in italics.

Ok, looks like a really fun team.
Oh man - how did I get stuck with you losers.

Let's make that our theme: have fun.
We ain't gonna win diddly squat.

Don't get me wrong, I want to be competitive,
Don't get me wrong, I want to be competitive (this time I'm being literal)

and for me that just means that we all show up, take our shots and have fun.
Make sure you show up, because playing with three players would be even worse than our current pathetic team of four

We'll actually play better if we just relax and have fun than we would if we got nervous.
It really is about winning so just relax and try not to smell my fear

So especially for Jeanne, just relax and enjoy the day.
Jeanne - you are the weakest link.

Somebody once told me that if ya enjoy laughing at yourself, then golf is the perfect game for you!!!
Be prepared to laugh at yourself. I will be laughing at you.

Of course, there will be some strategy as well, like who takes each shot first and all that, but I will try to call that as the day unfolds.
Just do as I say and we'll be fine.

Jeanne, if you want to go to the driving range one day at lunch, let me know. How about next wednesday?
Jeanne - you need a lot of practice. Please consider this your first and final invitation to the compulsory training session.

Ron and Phil are of course welcome as well.
Ron and Phil: You also need the practice, but I have a feeling Jeanne will suck the most.

I think you can basically choose a favorite club and use it most of the day, off the tees and fairways. That will reduce confusion due to switching clubs which of course have different lengths and such.
Golf is hard - leave the thinking to me.

Do you have a favorite club? If not, I will try to help you pick one. I recommend a 3 wood or a 5 wood.
Have you ever even played before?! Oh brother - I'm really going to have to carry this team.

Regards, John

Golf Team 2005

As a post-script I should add that we did very well on the day - thanks mostly to John's incredible focus and coaching tips. We finished in third place at one under PAR and picked up some nice prizes.

That twelve pack of Grolsch will be put to good use!
