Aug 25th, 2005Here's some brief bio information on Phil Willis. |
Work |
Phil has worked as a software projects manager for four years in Philadelphia and six years as a software engineer for Honeywell in Sydney. His work has allowed him to travel to South America, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Germany and many "attractive" parts of Australia such as Newcastle, Wollongong, Gladstone and Whyalla. After ten years working for Honeywell he is currently on a sabbatical break. |
Art |
Phil has spent time studying at Philadelphia's Fleisher Art School. He still sucks at drawing. Future art projects TBA. Stay tuned. |
Sport |
Phil is terrible at any sports requiring coordination and has been advised by several professional and lay-people never to engage in activities where the ball is smaller than his own head. In spite of that, he has completed a two marathons and a half-marathon. |
Comedy |
Phil performed improvised comedy for four years in Sydney, both as an actor and musician. He was a regular cast member of Sydney's longest running improv show Scared Scriptless. He has competed in Sydney's hotly contested improv show The Cranston Cup four times in these teams: Phil has appeared in two short films which both won "The Best of the Rest of Tropfest" awards: |
Language |
Phil is learning Italian at the moment and will spend two months in Italy where he hopes to be able to speak with the fluency of a three year old.
|
Games |
Phil has competed in both Scrabble and chess tournaments throughout the United States. He is currently studying under chess master Dan Heisman and is ranked in the top 100 chess players* in the USA. The pinicle of his chess playing career was beating two-time US Women's Chess Champion, International Master Jennifer Shahade. Phil has squandered the last year playing an online game World of Warcraft creating an alter ego Sqwert. He eagerly awaits the release of Sid Meier's Civilization IV, having already declared Civilization III "the heroin of PC games". *actually this would only be true if Phil was nine years old. If Phil was ten, he would not even make the top 1000. |
