For the first time in my life - I made chicken stock!

I spent Tuesday night making it from the leftover chicken and bones from a deliiiiicious roast cooked by Leigh and Verica.


Chicken Stock

Oh. My. Lord. It was tasty.

Three hours, four bay leaves, two carrots, fifty peppercorns and one parsnip later I had less than two cups of stock to show for it.

But can I tell you - it tasted superb. It took all my willpower not to just drink a pint of it right there and then, but then I thought there's no way I would waste three hours of work for 30 seconds of bliss.

Or would I?


Chicken Stock Dork

Don't know if you've made stock before but the good part is:
  • While you're doing it the whole place smells like roast chicken.


  • The bad part - in the morning when you wake up (perhaps slightly hung over, perhaps not):
  • The whole place STILL smells like roast chicken! :(


  • To be fair, although it's time consuming - but it's not like constant work. I was mostly drinking and watching TV while the alchemy happened.

    I don't know if I'll attempt it again - but I can tell you I have one tasty risotto coming my way in the near future.
